Let’s face it, gear does matter.
Whether you’re just starting out or have years of experience, the right gear combined with creativity makes a huge difference. The right setup can elevate your storytelling, push your creative limits, and even help you charge more for your work. Here’s my go-to kit, with links to the exact gear I use and recommend:
Camera body: Sony A7III
The Sony A7III is one of the most versatile full-frame cameras out there. The camera revolutionized the photography world when it first came out, and for a very good reason. It has excellent low-light performance, fast autofocus, and amazing image quality that works for everything from portraits to events. It’s basically a workhorse for both beginners wanting to grow and pros who need reliability.
Lens: Sigma 30mm f/1.4
The Sigma 30mm is a fantastic lens with beautiful sharpness. The f/1.4 allows you to get a dreamy bokeh look, perfect for portraits, street photography, or lifestyle shoots. The only catch is that the one I have is built for Nikon F-mount cameras, not Sony, because I started off on a Nikon.
Adapter: Nikon F to Sony E-Mount
To make the Sigma lens work on the Sony A7III, you’ll need an F-to-E mount adapter. This little piece of gear lets Nikon F-mount lenses connect to Sony’s E-mount system without losing functionality, so you get the best of both worlds.
